News and Notes:

  • From the Feb. 7 meeting:
As we head into spring, it time to start planning for the Club's 2008 events. To assist in this process, there was
a membership meeting held on Feb. 7th. A summary of established dates are provided below:
    • The Club will once again support Team Charlie at the Heart Run and Walk on March 8th. Members are encouraged to note their affiliation with Team Charlie at the time of registration.
    • On Saturday, April 19th members are asked to participate in the Canal Clean Sweep – Celebrating Earth Day event. Groups will walk the canal towpath and clean-up litter and branches. Watch the newspaper for additional details.
    • The Thursday evening Developmental Runs – Walk – Kayak program will begin on April 24th in Erwin Park and continue through July 10th.
    • The date of April 10th is set for the annual Awards Banquet and business meeting. It will be held at 6:00pm at the Town &Village Municipal Offices located at 13149 State RT 12 in Boonville. The Club will provide the pizza; you need only bring your own preferred beverage. Payment of your 2008 dues can also be done that evening.
    • In preparation for the banquet, members are reminded they need to submit their mileage for the year. Jackets will be award to that member recording their first 1,000 miles running, 500 miles walking or 500 miles paddling - for kayakers. For other members, chevrons will be awarded reflecting their accomplishment for the year. Members must complete the attached form and return it to Ken Stabb ASAP - but no later than March 3rd.
    • A new addition to our Thursday evening program will be a weekly drawing. Each runner, walker or kayaker can submit their name for the drawing of a gift at the end of the evening. You must be present to win.
    • At the completion of our Thursday evening program and during the Party on July 10th, all new members will be presented their club tee shirts. For other members, anyone attending at least six (6) of Thursday evening events will receive a small gift.
    • Anyone restless on Sunday mornings, we continue to meeting at the Fitness Center at 9:00am to run. Hope to see you all soon and remember- Run Smart! and Run Safe!

  • Volunteers from the Boonville Amateur Radio Club provide radio communications for major
events such as the Woodsmen's 10K and Fall Fest Town & Country 10K runs. The club is in
need of more licensed radio operators for these events. Obtaining the required amateur radio license is
relatively easy and does not require learning Morse code. It would be very handy for anyone working at
these events to be able to pick up a radio and communicate with the radio operators on the course. Aside
from that, ham radio can be a lot of fun. Please consider getting a ham radio license to add to your toolkit
    of resources.
